First Place Finishers from NYU Winthrop, Marcum Technology, Polar Electro, Adecco Group, and Empire National Bank

New York City, NY – Nearly 12,000 Long Islanders turned out for this year’s Marcum Workplace Challenge at Jones Beach State Park on Tuesday night, to raise funds for four area nonprofit organizations. Approximately 8,400 runners and walkers on 195 company teams completed the 3.5-mile course, cheered on by colleagues, friends, and families who lingered after the race for Long Island’s largest corporate picnic.

Marcum’s Victoria Robitaille, the first place winner in the women’s category, breaks through the finish line tape held by CBS TV-2’s Jennifer McLogan.

The annual Marcum Workplace Challenge is presented by Marcum LLP, a top national accounting and advisory firm and the largest on Long Island. The event is produced by the Greater Long Island Running Club.

Long Island reporter Jennifer McLogan from CBS New York emcee’d the opening ceremonies and held the finish line tape with Carolyn Mazzenga, Marcum’s Long Island office managing partner. Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti, the America’s Got Talent finalist who won Heidi Klum’s “golden buzzer,” performed the national anthem.

Going into this year’s event, the Marcum Workplace Challenge had raised more than $700,000 to benefit Long Island Cares – the Harry Chapin Food Bank, the Long Island Children’s Museum, the Children’s Medical Fund of New York, and the Nassau County SPCA.  2017 charity receipts are still being tallied and will be announced later this year.

The Marcum Workplace Challenge is supported by leading companies and organizations across Long Island. This year’s other top sponsors include Ergonomics Group, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Empire National Bank, PSEG Long Island, and Telephonics.

“This was Marcum’s 12th year as title sponsor, and in many ways it was our best year yet,” Ms. Mazzenga said. “Attendance was strong, which means more funds raised for our great charities, and Long Island companies did what they do best by showing up in force to support the Long Island community.  Even the weather cooperated with a cool evening, perfect for a run.”

And they’re off! 8,400 Long Islanders from 195 companies ran or walked in the 2017 Marcum Workplace Challenge.
