The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM)

The Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM) believes that children learn best by seeing, touching, and doing and are motivated to learn when they are having fun. The Museum’s mission “invites visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to explore freely, discover their passions, and appreciate the communities and world we share.” LICM places community service at the heart of its mission and offers extensive outreach programs to some of the most underserved areas on Long Island. Through its Good to Go initiative, programs such as KICKstart, Together to Kindergarten and the Westbury STEM Partnership bring the Museum’s commitment to access and inclusivity to life. LICM was awarded the highest honor given to Museums – the National Medal for Museum and Library Service – presented to institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service, exceeding the expected levels of community outreach. LICM opened at a small demonstration sight in 1993 and is now located in a 40,000 square foot, world-class facility at Long Island’s historic Mitchel Field in Garden City. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Museum has welcomed more than 3.5 million visitors to enjoy 14 interactive exhibit galleries; hands-on educational programs and workshops; annual traveling exhibits; a diverse mix of family friendly live performances in the 145-seat, state-of-the-art theatre; a variety of early childhood, art, science and humanities workshops. The Children’s Museum provides a safe and nurturing environment where children and families can spend quality time together exploring and discovering new things. LICM is private not-for-profit institution chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. For information, visit www.licm.org.

Children’s Medical Fund of New York

Children’s Medical Fund of New York was established in 1966 by a group of visionaries, who thought the region needed a dedicated children’s hospital. A nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, the founding leadership advocated for a hospital to be built, won its authorization, and raised the funds necessary so that the resulting Schneider Children’s Hospital (now known as the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of NY) opened its doors in 1983. CMF remains one of the hospital’s largest supporters, with millions of dollars raised to advance the medical care, increase technological capability, support educational information, and improve the lives of seriously ill children and their families. Operating from its Syosset offices, CMF designs events in New York and on Long Island to attract major support and create awareness of its mission. For information, visit www.cmfny.org or call 516-624-1981.
