FARRELL FRITZ, P.C. EMPLOYEE USES WEIGHT LOSS AS MOTIVATION IN 2011 MARCUM WORKPLACE CHALLENGE
MELVILLE, NY – July 6, 2011 - After losing 84 pounds in the past year, Farrell Fritz, P.C. Marketing Coordinator Kristina Filippi is gearing up for her first time running in the Marcum Workplace Challenge this month. Although Filippi has been eating right and exercising for the last 13 months, learning to run properly was another important fitness goal to which she aspired in preparation for this year’s charitable race at Jones Beach on July 26.
Filippi will be participating as a member of the Farrell Fritz, P.C. team, a corporate participant in the Marcum Workplace Challenge since its inception. The firm encourages employees to take part in the event to create camaraderie and to become more active in the Long Island community.
Filippi said, “I joined the RunStart training program through the Marcum Workplace Challenge to learn how to run and stretch properly. After the first clinic, I was hooked and now run several times per week.” After walking part of last year’s race, Filippi was determined to run this year. “Even if I can’t run the whole thing, it will still be an accomplishment and improvement,” she says.
Filippi started her weight loss journey by joining Weight Watchers and reactivating her gym memberships, but it was her determination and motivation that helped her persevere. “I had to prove to myself that by believing in myself I would be able to achieve my goal,” said Filippi. Stepping out of her comfort zone gave her the opportunity to try new things, such as spinning, kick-boxing and most recently learning to run in training for the Marcum Workplace Challenge.
This is the sixth consecutive year that Marcum LLP will be title sponsor for the annual Long Island fundraiser. Launched in 2005, the 3.5-mile Marcum Workplace Challenge is Long Island's largest participatory sporting event and "Company Picnic." It attracts thousands of participants from more than 200 companies, non-profit organizations, schools and governmental agencies and their families and friends. Since its inception, the Marcum Workplace Challenge has raised nearly $150,000 for local charities. This year’s beneficiaries include The Long Island Children’s Museum, The Children’s Medical Fund of New York and Long Island Cares, Inc. - The Harry Chapin Food Bank. The event is managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club under the direction of Event Director Mindy Davidson.
